World Car Free Day 2025

TIME: 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm

York Road and St Peter’s Plain

World Car Free Day is an annual event that encourages a shift towards more sustainable living and offers a unique opportunity to reimagine our streets without cars. Out There Arts will be collaborating with local residents to transform the streets surrounding The Drill House, to create an urban oasis featuring a pop-up mobile garden, public living room, bicycle obstacle courses, smoothie bike, street games, chalk murals and creative workshops.

Out There Arts has taken inspiration from the Playing Out / Play Street initiative which gives children and young people a chance to play, be active and make friends on their streets, whilst also building community and encouraging active citizenship. As well as these immediate benefits, they can help to bring about a longer-term culture-change, where streets are safer and friendlier and it is more normal for children to play out. The event will be a brilliant opportunity for all neighbours to get to know each other better, and will give more space for children to safely play together, too. Please note: Parents/Guardians will be responsible for their own children.
