About

A free programme for young people aged 11-18 (up to 25 for those with SEND) which encourages participation in culture and creativity through doing making and creating.

Get stuck, every other Saturday and Wednesday from 14th September.

The September Saturday sessions will take place at the Marina Leisure Centre. However, from October sessions will take place at the Drill House.

Wednesdays will be an after-school club at Charter Academy but open to everyone.

While the event is a drop-in, we still need a Parental Consent Form to be filled out. It is fine to turn up without it but each session we will need you to fill in your emergency contact details. So easier to fill out the below form once and never again!

Hasina Choudhury

Comic Book Illustrator

Sina has been drawing cartoons since she was very small. In her teens she started to write science fiction stories and wondered how she could add my illustrations. On the discovery of Manga and Marvel comics she found she could combine the two things! Those I still admire from those days are Katsuhiro Otomo the creator of Akira and the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Clare Southern

Theatre Designer and Environmental Activist

Now retired after working as a Theatre Designer and Maker for over 30 years. Clare have become a determined street and beach litter picker and engaged in adopting areas around the town to plant up. Flowers instead of litter! Clare works closely with Out There Arts, Original Projects and Wastesmiths on a host of community projects year round.

Lewis Buxton

Poet

Lewis Buxton is a poet and theatre maker in Norfolk. His first book 'Boy in Various Poses' was shortlisted for the East Anglian Book of the Year Award, and his theatre shows Workout, Boy, and Friend have all toured around the UK. The EDP have called him 'a performer in full control of his craft, combining the confidence of an arena comedian with the sensitivity of a poet'.

Natalie Whitney

Audio-visual Participatory Artist

Nat is an audio-visual participatory artist working with creative technologies to construct interactive, sensory objects and spaces that invite curiosity and play. They believe play and co-creative spaces are incredibly important and that creative technologies are powerful tools for inquiry, learning and collaboration. They have facilitated spaces using creative technologies in playful ways with artists, students, families and early years across the East.

Dumisani African Drumming Group

Dumisani African Drumming Group believes everyone can participate in African music making regardless of musical experience. Drumming is an easy, fun and stress-busting activity and we're a friendly bunch! Why not come along and have a go. We meet at the Unitarian Church, Yarmouth Way/Greyfriars, Great Yarmouth NR30 2SW. On a Monday night at 7pm.

Edible East promotes a healthy sustainable future for all with workshops and exhibitions combining art, science and horticulture. Jennie Pedley is the founder of Edible East, and an artist who works with drawing, shadow theatre, film and more to explore the challenges that we face.

Paper-Works*

Paper-works print making studio is based in Lowestoft. It was founded by artists Hugh Davies and Lisa Hurcum in 2018 to provide facilities for hand printing using relief and intaglio techniques. Paper-works* also produces the “Lowestoft Lowdown” a monthly free listings zine for cultural and creative events and activities in Lowestoft.

With the recent success of Diary of me (EP) along with ‘Manifester’ and ‘Bound’ singles hitting over 130,000 streams, the future is looking bright for London born JULIET. Hailing from South East London and now residing in Norwich, JULIET, now 20 has already graced stages at Latitude, The Waterfront, Wild Paths, Voodoo Daddys and Mostly Jazz festival in Birmingham.

A not-for-profit social enterprise that teaches the unique Afro Brazilian cultural art form of Capoeira - A mixture of dance, music, singing, acrobatics and martial arts. Their aim is to provide support and offer opportunities to, but not exclusively for, disadvantaged and marginalised groups of people enabling them to build and strengthen a sense of community, inclusion and self esteem as well as physical and mental wellbeing.

Holly Sandiford

Socially Engaged Artist

Holly Sandiford who loves blending art and science by working directly with nature. She uses techniques like camera-less photography, video and field recordings to capture the world around her. Her work is all about connecting with the environment and sharing that connection with others. She's passionate about promoting well-being through creativity and co-directs a nonprofit that uses art to help people's wellbeing.

Ellery Child

Natural Dyeing, Print-making and Furniture Building

Ellery is an artist living and working in Great Yarmouth, after previously studying in Glasgow and London. He is interested in how communities come together to share knowledge and experiences and has previously developed queer gardening clubs and a communal bread oven in a park. Currently he is busy delivering accessible workshops in natural dyeing, printmaking and furniture building and works out of his studio based in PrimeYarc.

Lizzie Bass

Illustrator

Lizzie's work is primarily observation based, meaning she loves to draw from life in my sketchbooks before translating these sketches into finalised illustrations and products. She loves to create colourful illustrations and objects and enjoy working across a variety of media such as acrylic gouache paint, collage and even brass and acrylic.

Charlene Low

Inclusive Dance Artist

Over the last 20years Charlene’s passion has driven her to become a vibrant and versatile choreographer - performer - educator and consultant with prolific experiences within the inclusive as well as intergenerational work in the arts and dance industry. In 2010 she founded Sardines Dance (sardinesdance.org) a collective of exceptional, inclusive contemporary dance artists whose works extends to those with profound and multiple learning disabilities in various settings, from that of a relaxed community sharing to a national televised platform.

Unfortunately, the beach by the Marina Centre is not accessible for normal wheelchairs. However, you can hire a beach wheelchair for free from the council using the link below. Don't worry though, there will be activities that are wheelchair accessible inside the Marina Leisure Centre and on the promenade overlooking the beach.
