Out There Arts secures £25,000 grant to combat loneliness and ignite community volunteering in Great Yarmouth

Out There Arts has been awarded £25,000 grant through the Know Your Neighbourhood Fund. The funding will support an ambitious programme designed to help tackle chronic loneliness, remove barriers to participation in the arts, and grow the charity’s volunteering community.

“As the arts and culture sector in Great Yarmouth grows, it is obvious that they are powerful connectors, and this grant is vital for making sure that connection reaches everyone who needs it.” said Veronica Stephens, Out There Arts’ Executive Director. “We’re building welcoming, safe spaces where people can find purpose, meet neighbours, and help shape our local culture.”

Volunteering Opportunities in Great Yarmouth

The funding will support three projects in which local people can get involved, learn new skills and connect with others:

The Drill House The weekly ‘Volunteer Hub’ is a dedicated social space for connection, sharing ideas, and learning. Volunteers can also get hands-on with new creative projects linked to the charity’s regular arts programme at The Drill House. Volunteer hubs take place every Monday, 11am - 12noon at The Drill House, York Road, NR30 2LZ.

The Ice House Volunteers have already helped to produce numerous successful events at The Ice House, including Live Music Gigs, Film Premieres, a Beer & Circus Festival and Heritage Tours. Further opportunities include joining The Ice House gardening group, and training to become an official heritage tour guide.

Out There Festival The Out There Festival, the region’s largest outdoor arts festival, offers an incredible opportunity for volunteers to be at the heart of the action, gain experience in event production and connect with thousands of people from all walks of life.

The Know Your Neighbourhood grant will also support ‘Up Our Street’, a new community-led programme focused on bringing people together and boosting local pride. Earlier this year, neighbours and volunteers worked with Out There Arts to close a road and create a vibrant ‘play street’ as part of international car free day - showing that community voice can lead to exciting neighbourhood transformations.
